Thomas Abbott

Care For Children, Regional Manager for SE Asia
Thomas Abbott is an MK, PK and TCK who grew up in Pakistan, attended university in London, and in 2003 moved to Beijing, China, to join Care For Children, following one year working with the British Council in Shanghai. There he worked with Robert Glover to expand the successful Shanghai pilot project into a national foster care programme, working in partnership with the Chinese government, to help over 300,000 children move from institutions into local families. In 2007 he moved back to the UK to manage and develop Care For Children’s UK headquarters in Norwich, before moving with his family to Chiang Mai, Thailand, in 2012, to launch Care For Children’s first project outside of China, working in partnership with the Thai government. He is now the Regional Manager for SE Asia, overseeing the growing Thai project, as well as new developments and opportunities with other governments in the region. His wife, Rachel, is a qualified British midwife, and they have two sons, Theodore (2) and Barnabas (0).
